“Art is music in colour. At times it is poetry at others… silence.”
Maureen is a landscape and figure artist. She was born in Zimbabwe and trained in graphic design at the Natal Tech, Durban in the mid 1970’s. After working for many years in commercial art, Maureen turned to the holistic health field of Kinesiology. She trained and ran her practice for over twenty years. It was this work that helped Maureen develop a deep sensitivity and awareness in expressing her paint style.
In her landscapes, Maureen depicts the atmosphere of the natural world, often expressing the drama of light and reflection at the change of day. The African bush is an important source od inspiration for her.
Maureen researches her figurative painting ideas and has been inspired by the ethnic people of Africa as well as the bygone Victorian, Edwardian and the Flapper periods. Early photography, theatre and film history hold a special fascination for her. Her paintings depict a feminine graciousness which she interprets in a minimalistic contemporary style. Maureen’s palette is muted but the main focus of her work is in portraying the emotion of her subjects.
Maureen has a number of artworks hanging in several corporate collections worldwide. She is also one of only four South African Artists featured in the internationally book “Masters of Contemporary Fine Art”.
