ARTISTJeremy van der Want

“As a committed conservationist, my art is concerned with the honourable farewell that humanity owes to the beauty, grace and rarity of planet Earth and all her creatures.”

Jeremy van der Want was first bitten by the Art bug in the early 1990s. As a young boy he experienced a friendship with the abstract expressionist Fred Schimmel and this led to a lifelong pursuit. Jeremy attended the Johannesburg Art Foundation in Saxonwold, Johannesburg where he studied under Artists like Ruth Sack, Walter Daniels and others. Always an active outdoorsman Jeremy spent many years exploring South Africa’s wilderness areas such as the Knysna Forest, St Lucia wetlands, Drakensberg and the Karoo. Working as a small-time contractor and decorator Jeremy funded his exploration of the South African bushveld. Having painted and drawn throughout his life Jeremy was asked by some galleries to begin a professional career as an artist in 2016. Is Art can be seen in Galleries across the country, and now at Etchings etc, Durban.
Jeremy’s work has over the years been acquired by international Art collectors is present in collections on every continent.
